The parents of first graders assigned to Judy Eigenfeld participated in five evening workshops that allowed them to know one another and the first grade teacher, to learn about the math curriculum and new types of assessment, and to brainstorm ways to support their children’s success. The children participated in math activities with specialist teachers during the parent workshops.

Supply Store Learning Center

Students studied each of the eight strands of the math curriculum in twice monthly activities in the project supported supply store. All classes in all grade levels used the special learning center which provided a real life setting to work on math and buy school supplies. Each month the whole school focuses on one strand of the curriculum.

One Room School

A team of first, second and third grade teachers working with 125 students in three multi-age classrooms used this grant to purchase resource materials for learning centers. Students worked independently at centers on activities to develop their language, reading and math skills while focusing on the theme for the month. Math, Science and Visual Learning

Family Math Survival Kits

A teacher-parent team purchased dies for the Ellison machine and other materials needed to create math manipulatives for students to use with their families for homework and at PTA sponsored Family Math activity nights.
