The MIDI (Musical Instrumental Digital Interface) Studio expands the music curriculum and encourages student creativity by giving instrumental vocal and AP Music Theory students access to technology to learn music theory piano composition and arranging. Students can produce music for public performances and private exploration using a keyboard and MIDI computer software purchased with this grant and computers monitors and a printer provided by the school district.’);

Real Life Learning Through Reading

This project was designed to motivate and support students as readers by tying the content of their reading to real experiences and building a sense of community among students. This fourth and fifth grade team purchased whole class sets of several books whose themes relate to integrated units that also involve them in field trips and special projects. Kindergarten Learning

Each week the reading teacher visits each kindergarten class and uses grant-funded books to introduce key strategies for independent reading. The theme of each book connects to science and social studies units being studied in the class. Phonetic Awareness and Decoding

Research indicates that successful readers are able to blend and segment sounds. When this “phonemic awareness” is learned early it makes future growth much more possible. This team purchased a variety of instructional materials to help a targeted group of students in K-5 develop crucial phonemic and decoding skills for fluent reading. Real Reading for At-risk Primary Students
