Taylor Academy Sign

The Parents Group at Taylor spearheaded an effort to give Taylor greater visibility within the community by installing a sign that can be used to communicate their successes. The grant was pledged contingent upon raising other funds.

Grandperson Theater Night

Students planned and executed an evening at Roxboro for 150 senior citizens and 7th graders. The project was an extension of a 7th grade creative writing unit on biography. Students invited the subject of their biography to dinner. Other senior citizens who reside in nursing homes in CH and UH were also invited. Lifeskills students and student council prepared the food, Roxboro musicians provided dinner entertainment, and the drama club performed The Wiz.

A Picture of Coventry History

The PTA sponsored a parent-led effort to organize and preserve the school’s collection of historic photographs and materials. This grant was used for an art project that involved students creating two collages using the school’s archives to show highlights of school life in the previous and present buildings. The project are displayed in the school lobby.

Accelerated Math Proficiency

Three fifth grade classes are involved in the Accelerated Math Program, which uses computer-generated work sheets to target each student’s specific needs. This grant enables each classroom to have its own scanner helping the program work more efficiently. Team members: Catherine Ikimis, Project Manager, Michelle Slane, Jeannetta Russell and Patricia Rahmon, principal.
