Students in the multi-age class worked with University Heights senior citizens to create family histories. Wiley students showed the seniors how to use computer software to research genealogy. A culminating dinner featured presentations by several of the participants.

Recycling in the Schools!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink! A parent volunteer organized a recycling education program at Canterbury, Boulevard, and Noble elementary schools in partnership with the County Solid Waste District. With the help of principals, teachers, custodians and the Student Councils, children collected and recycled paper. Activities included classroom presentations and an Earth Week poster contest.

Grandperson Theater Night

Students planned and executed an evening at Roxboro for 150 senior citizens and seventh graders. The project was an extension of a seventh grade creative writing unit on biography. Students invited the subject of their biograpy to dinner. Other senior citizens who reside in nursing homes in CH and UH were also invited. Lifeskills students and student council prepared the food, Roxboro musicians provided dinner entertainment, and the drama club performed The Wiz.

Accelerated Fourth Grade Math

The Accelerated Math program will increase student success in math and save teacher time by using computer generated pre-tests, post tests, and differentiated math problems. This will facilitate individualized instruction for all fourth grade students.
