Hungarian Harbingers

A team of district teachers who participated in the Hungarian Teacher Exchange Program sponsored by the Ohio Department of Education, will translate their experience into learning opportunities for their students. They will address social studies and writing standards using a field trip to the Western Reserve Historical Society and a Hungarian folk dance performance, and writing to students in Hungary using the Flat Stanley project.

PATH (Parent Ambassadors To Heights)

The PATH organization, started in 2003, will expand the focus of their parent-to-parent marketing concept to elementary school parents feeding into Monticello Middle School. They plan to expand to all elementary & middle schools later in the school year. Funds will be used to pay for information cards, displays and mailing costs.

Leaf Rake and Litter Pick Up

Monticello Middle School students and parent volunteers raked and picked up litter on streets near the school. Students then met for a reflection period and lunch. Community neighbors were surveyed about the project.

Juggling for Success

File Folder Games

At a family work evening parents will make learning folder games based on the first grade standards. Children will bring the folder games home each night as homework, encouraging learning through hands-on activities and reinforcing concepts taught at school. The games will be shared between the three 1st grade classes. Funds will be used to purchase materials to make the games and refreshments for the family night event.

Families at Boulevard (FAB)

The Boulevard staff will lead eight evening sessions for Boulevard families that will help children increase math, reading and writing achievement. Staff will lead math activities that families can continue to use at home. They will also model activities that promote literacy skills. Families will receive math tool kits and books for home use.

75 years of Canterbury Tales

Canterbury will work with Kulture Kids, Inc. to implement an interdisciplinary approach to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the school. Artists-in-residence will work with all classrooms throughout the school year to explore the history of their school and the community through writing, performance and the visual arts. A bound record of the history of the school will be produced and a student produced performance event will be held in the spring.

German TV Programming

Heights High’s German Department will incorporate German TV programming into their curriculum with the use of a satellite dish. Funds will be used to pay for the shipping and installation of the dish and for a 1–year subscription to the German TV service.
