About Us
Reaching Heights is a nonprofit citizen organization that promotes public ownership and responsibility for the success of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights public schools. This public education advocacy organization seeks to make the Cleveland Heights-University Heights public schools the best possible resource for each student, our community and our democracy.
What We Do
Reaching Heights taps the energy, skills, optimism and financial resources of our residents, alumni, local businesses and organizations, and foundations in order to invigorate public support for our public schools.
Through the combined efforts of the Reaching Heights staff, board of trustees, members and volunteers Reaching Heights:
- Supports teacher collaboration and innovation by offering grants to teachers, staff, and parent teams from individual schools for innovative and worthwhile projects that help more students excel.(School Team Grants)
- Fosters an atmosphere of appreciation for the unique contributions of educators (Thank-A-Teacher).
- Connects the community with its schools through newsletters that describe the daily life inside the Heights Schools, through grants that promote community outreach, and through an email newsletter (Neighborhood Newsletters; Community Connection Grants; Enews).
- Celebrates public education, builds community and raises private resources
to support excellence in the classroom by organizing an annual community spelling bee, music events and other community gatherings.
(Spelling Bee; Events)
- Promotes greater understanding of the programs within our schools, and important education issues affecting our district by issuing reports and holding public forums. (Citizens Guide to Music; PS21; Governance Forum)
