The Cleveland Heights Teachers Union annual banquet held on May 5, 2006 was quite a surprising and exciting evening for Susie Kaeser, Executive Director of Reaching Heights. During the festivities Teachers Union President Tom Schmida announced the creation of the Teachers Union Tribute, “to acknowledge and celebrate a leader, an activist, a reformer, and a true champion of the Heights Schools.” Much to Kaeser's surprise, he was describing her!
The following are Tom Schmida's comments.
At a recent meeting of our Union Officers, we decided it was time for our Union to recognize our best friends. We wanted to acknowledge and celebrate a leader, an activist, a reformer, and a true champion of the Heights Schools…so we created a special award this year…the Teacher Union Tribute.
So it is my pleasure to present the first Cleveland Heights Teachers Union Tribute award:to very special friend, Susie Kaeser. Susie please come to the dais. Susie is the Executive Director of Reaching Heights, our CHUH Public Schools Foundation. I don't think it's possible to overstate all of Susie Kaeser's tremendous accomplishments on behalf of students and teachers in our district. Susie is a true and loyal public school advocate and activist We have all benefited so much from her dedication and commitment to the Heights Schools. Susie Kaeser leads….she delivers on her promises and plans, and she has energized our community in ways to which most school districts can only aspire.
Reaching Heights has evolved into a fantastic resource that secures funding for a variety of grants to schools and teachers, and serves as a community conduit of information about the great things happening in our schools through neighborhood newsletters and its website. Reaching Heights offers an engaging public education forum for the entire community, not just parents & guardians, but for all who care about the Heights schools. Moreover…Susie Kaeser truly appreciates and values teachers….and we value her..more than words or any form of award can ever express. Susie…we thank you and present to you the first ever Teacher Union Tribute award.
