Reaching Heights is an organization that believes our public schools are our community’s greatest asset. Our mission is to mobilize community resources—both human and financial—to foster excellent public schools in Cleveland Heights/University Heights. We provide grants to teachers and schools, we create and manage extra-curricular programming, we publicize the accomplishments of our students and schools and we provide ways for parents and community members to participate in the schools.
• managing a staff of 3 – 5 and a budget of $150,000 +
• providing insight and strategic direction to the organization and its board on issues critical to education within the CH-UH community.
• overseeing a variety of programs, including the Many Villages tutoring program, the Reaching Heights Music Camp, Thank-a-Teacher and our teacher grant program.
• planning and implementing events, including Annual Meeting and Spelling Bee
• overseeing and maintaining development efforts with foundations, corporations and individual donors
• managing several communications vehicles, which include Neighborhood Newsletters, The Reaching Heights Newsletter and our website
• being the organization’s face and voice to the community
• communicating with the board and its committees on a regular basis
• participating and collaborating with community and school groups
• deep roots in the CH-UH school community and the ability to network
• a hands-on leader; excellent decision-maker
• strong organizational skills, which include knowing when to delegate
• strong writing and communications skills, including public speaking
• strategic thinking
• a minimal knowledge of how budgets work; willingness to learn
• grant writing, fundraising experience
• A propensity to see the glass as half-full and to look at challenges with an open mind
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize
• knowledge and interest in issues and trends affecting public education
• good people skills; collaborative approach to problem-solving
