For Immediate Release: October 14, 2005
The public is invited to a Reaching Heights forum, “Rising Scores, Rising Expectation: Using Standards and Accountability to Inspire Teachers and Students,” to be held October 26 at 7:30 pm at the Cleveland Heights Community Center , 1 Monticello Boulevard . The event is free.
Cleveland Heights-University Heights students performed at all-time highs on the 2004-05 Ohio Achievement Tests. Some schools had 20 to 50 point increases in passage rates on specific tests. A panel of CH-UH district educators will describe what they did – from the district level to the classroom - to increase student achievement, and the complex and continuing challenge of ensuring that all students achieve.
The panel members are: Deborah Delisle, Superintendent of the CH-UH City School District ; Denine Goolsby, Principal, Wiley Middle School ; Kelly Stukus, Principal, Oxford Elementary School ; and Tara Keller, Oxford teacher.
The strategies include an emphasis on collaboration, building-based problem solving, frequent assessment and data analysis to ensure individualized and focused instruction, and transforming the curriculum to make it standards based.
Reaching Heights is a community based support organization for the Cleveland Heights-University Heights public schools.
