News and Information

Being well informed about the schools, education, and education policy is an essential first step for citizens to be responsible for their public schools.  While there are many ways for the public to take responsibility and add to the schools – from volunteering to voting- knowing more about the reality of our children, educators, resources, theory and practice, and the dynamics of this complicated enterprise help make schools come alive.  Information can help individuals connect with their public schools, appreciate the task, set meaningful expectations, form multi-dimensional perceptions, and exercise their responsibility for public education with appropriate care and thought.

Because citizens are so important to public schools and because information is so important to citizens acting in a helpful way, Reaching Heights implements many activities to communicate a realistic and lively view of our schools and the complexity that surrounds this invaluable community asset.

Neighborhood Newsletters

Reaching Heights works with hundreds of volunteers to write and distribute newsletters describing the daily life in our public schools.  The Neighborhood Newsletter project gives community writers, parents and educators from each school a place to describe the rich array of activities that help shape the unique school communities that form within each of the district’s buildings.  This is not the news that is found in the media, but it is the news that helps to connect neighbors with their schools, and flesh out the reality of this intensely human enterprise.
