Reaching Heights is proud to offer scholarships for private music lessons to 5 th-7 th graders enrolled in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School district’s instrumental music program. Scholarships are available for part of the cost of 20 weekly half-hour music lessons to be taken between January and July 1, 2008. Applications must be postmarked by October 31, 2007 to be considered.
The Patti Family Music Lesson Scholarships honor Vince Patti who taught instrumental and vocal music in the district from 1956 to 1976. The program contributes to the Heights tradition of musical excellence by helping young musicians develop the foundation skills for long-term participation, enjoyment and success in music. This is the second year of the scholarship program.
The program targets fifth, sixth and seventh graders who enjoy music, have financial need, and have participated in the school district’s instrumental music program for at least one year. They must be ready to commit to weekly lessons and daily practice. Lessons are for instruments that students play in their school program – no pianos please.
To be considered, the student and their parent/guardian must complete an application form and mail it to Reaching Heights by October 31, 2007. Reaching Heights will ask the student’s instrumental music teacher to complete a recommendation that assesses that student’s readiness to take advantage of music lessons. Applications are available at www.reachingheights.org, by calling Reaching Heights at 932-5110 or from your child’s instrumental music teacher. Scholarships will be awarded by November 15, 2007.
Each scholarship winner arranges for lessons with a teacher of their choice and pays the teacher part of the cost of each lesson. Reaching Heights pays the teachers the scholarship amount. All recipients will pay a minimum of $2 toward the cost of each lesson for up to 20 lessons. Many teachers expect payment for four lessons at a time.
Each scholarship recipient will become a Patti Musician, and will participate in an orientation meeting on December 3, 2007, and in other activities throughout the year.
